Ryoma had an idea! He wanted to start a modern navy for Japan. He decided to work together with a man named Katsu Kaishu. Katsu also thought that Japan should have a strong navy. They both learned about new technologies and built modern ships together.

りょうまは　おもいつきます。にほんのために　きんだいてきな　かいぐんをはじめようと。かつ　かいしゅうという　おとこといっしょに　はたらくことに　きめました。かつもまた、にほんは　つよいかいぐんを　もつべきだと　かんがえていたのです。かれらはふたりで　あたらしいぎじゅつをまなび、いっしょに　きんだいてきな　ふねをつくりました。
